STLMade: Home Run
Exploring St. Louis by foot, Ricky Hughes helps locals and transplants alike connect with the city in a new way through St. Louis Run Crew. Each week, St. Louis Run Crew brings dozens of runners from across the city to Downtown St. Louis to run together. The club features runners of different genders, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, ages, and abilities — some people walk, some bring strollers and some bring their dogs. “That’s where I think St. Louis had a mind of its own,” Hughes says. “Literally everyone is welcome. It’s the people’s crew.”
Every Sunday morning, the running club — which is free to join and open to anyone who’s interested — meets in front of the Runner Statue in Kiener Plaza for its signature “Sunday Runday.” (The crew meets at 10 a.m. in the winter, and usually 9 a.m. in warmer months.) While many friends encouraged Hughes to start his run crew in Forest Park or Tower Grove Park, he was bullish on running in Downtown St. Louis. He purposely wanted to run somewhere people might not expect and encourage people to get outside of their own neighborhoods. (STLMade)
Updates on Railway Exchange Revitalization
The City of St. Louis is finalizing the eminent domain process to acquire the long-neglected Railway Exchange Building, marking a significant step in Downtown revitalization efforts. This project and others — including the Public Safety Ambassador program, the redevelopment of the Millennium Hotel, safety and streetscape upgrades to 7th Street and Broadway, and other key efforts — reflect the commitment of the City and the business and civic communities to revitalizing the region’s urban core. Gateway Tower Secures New Tenant
Anderson & Gilbert, a longstanding St. Louis law firm, is relocating its headquarters to a building with direct views of the Gateway Arch. The firm will move to Gateway Tower (1 Memorial Drive) early this year. “It just makes sense for us to do business where we live,” said Mariano Favazza, a partner at the firm. If you made a resolution to expand your personal palate this year, add Downtown’s Amaizing Arepa Bar to your “must try” restaurants list. A fast-casual concept, Amaizing Arepa offers authentic Venezuelan dishes with a modern twist including their famous arepas — cornmeal dish filled with fresh ingredients including seasoned meats, cheeses, and vegetables.
