Lufthansa Expands International Service from STL
In 2021, St. Louis companies and organizations came together to secure funding for three-day-a-week service on Lufthansa between St. Louis and Frankfurt, the first nonstop flight from St. Louis to continental Europe in over two decades. This week, Lufthansa announced the expansion of that flight from three to five daysbeginning next June, confirming St. Louis as a global destination poised to attract more international flights.
The Bottom Line: The regional collaboration, forethought, and support needed to bring Lufthansa to St. Louis four years ago continues to pay off in big ways. Next up: transforming St. Louis Lambert International Airport into a new, world-class terminal, a project that could add nearly $5 billion in annual economic impact and support nearly 30,000 new jobs in the metro by 2032.
"When the business and civic communities came together to attract and secure this Lufthansa flight, our investors and other stakeholders did so with this expansion in mind,” said GSL Interim CEO Dustin Allison. “The upcoming transformation of our airport will only serve to enhance our efforts to bring additional international service to St. Louis, a critical component of the work to grow the region.”
