Boeing Investment Moves St. Louis Forward
Boeing’s planned $1.8 billion St. Louis expansion is underway. Announced in 2023, this sizeable investment in the region will add more than one million square feet to the company’s footprint and extend its century-old legacy as “Fighterland USA” into the future.
Winning this investment for the St. Louis region required collaboration with a coalition of partners at every level, and its success has borne additional fruit: Earlier this year, Boeing — an executive-level GSL investor — was selected to develop the new, sixth-generation fighter jet for the U.S. Air Force, to be known as the F-47. Media reports indicate that the contract could be worth at least $20 billion.
The Bottom Line: These wins drive investment, create jobs, and cement our region as a national hub for aerospace and defense technology, as well as advanced manufacturing. One win precipitates others; none are possible without continued public-private partnership and willing effort and collaboration at all levels.
Greater St. Louis, Inc. this week joined representatives from St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, St. Louis Lambert International Airport, St. Louis Development Corporation, and the Missouri Department of Economic Development to receive the Business Retention and Expansion award from the Missouri Economic Development Council for their collaborative work on Project Voyager, Boeing’s ambitious, $1.8 billion project. Once a Pending Project, $130M Gateway Studios Is Now Open for Business
In 2021, Gateway Studios & Production Services committed to build in Chesterfield one of the largest U.S. entertainment production services and rehearsal facility of its kind. Since breaking ground, the company invested $130 million into the project that will help to ignite the entertainment industry in Missouri.
Today, the 32-acre facility is open for business, complete with rehearsal and staging space, on-site support services, technical infrastructure, and production support.
The Bottom Line: Upon the project’s announcement, CEO and St. Louis native Trey Kerr called Gateway Studios “a game-changer for the live event and production industry.” This innovative vision creates more opportunity for the region and for Missouri, and thanks to the collaborative support Gateway received from GSL and state and regional partners, artists from around the world will start here before setting out on global tours.
Marking a Major Milestone in St. Louis, the Fed Continues to Make an Impact
On June 1, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis celebrated the centennial of its main building in Downtown St. Louis. While the St. Louis Fed began operations in 1914, its headquarters at Broadway and Locust Street wouldn’t open until June 1, 1925.
Today, approximately 1,300 St. Louis Fed employees are based in Downtown St. Louis, supporting the nation’s monetary policy, financial system, payments system, the U.S. Treasury, and communities served.
The Bottom Line: “Over the past century, the work performed inside the limestone-clad walls has evolved along with the banking system, and the building itself has been expanded several times,” wrote David Nicklaus for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Leaders here have had a big influence on U.S. monetary policy, and the St. Louis Fed has played a leading role in informing the public about the economy.
Seven St. Louis companies were named to the Fortune 500 list for 2025, the annual list of the nation’s largest companies — up from six last year. The list includes GSL Investors Centene, Reinsurance Group of America, Emerson Electric, Edward Jones, Graybar Electric, and Post, as well as Core & Main.
