ARCH GRANTS ANNOUNCES 2023 WINNERS
Program Brings Entrepreneurs to St. Louis from Around the World
Twenty-two startups will receive a total of nearly $1.9 million in grant funding from Arch Grants, the organization announced at its annual gala last week. The winners agree to relocate to St. Louis for one year in exchange for $75,000 in non-dilutive grant funding, as well as $25,000 for relocation. This year’s awards will bring entrepreneurs to St. Louis from around the globe, showcasing St. Louis for its innovation ecosystem and support network.
“We believe that by supporting these entrepreneurs, we’re not just investing in individual companies — we’re investing in the future of this city,” said Gabe Angieri, Executive Director of Arch Grants, a member of the GSL Investor Council.
SSM HEALTH AGREEMENT EXPANDS CARE INTO SOUTHEAST MO
SSM Health, an executive-level member of the GSL Chair’s Council, announced a new agreement with Cape Girardeau-based Saint Francis Healthcare System that will expand SSM Health’s world-class healthcare to southeast Missouri. The organizations will work together to share best practices and clinical expertise that further enhance care for everyone they serve.
GRANT FUNDS UMSL COUNSELORS IN NORTH COUNTY SCHOOLS
A new grant from the U.S. Department of Education will fund a partnership program placing counseling interns from the University of Missouri-St. Louis — a member of the GSL Chair’s Council — into 13 high-needs schools in north St. Louis County. Over five years, the interns will provide counseling to 5,000+ students, gaining experience while offering "trauma-informed, antiracist social-emotional learning."
WATLOW ANNOUNCES $6M EXPANSION, NEW HIGH-TECH JOBS
Watlow Electric Manufacturing Company announced this week the creation of a new Ceramic Technology Center at its Maryland Heights headquarters, a $6 million, 12,000-foot expansion that will create at least 10-15 new high-tech jobs.
“The manufacturing of technology products that support critical industries, including semiconductors, is vitally important to our economic strength, said Missouri Governor Mike Parson. “As Missouri’s high-tech manufacturing industry continues to thrive, we look forward to the contributions of innovative companies like Watlow.”

Kurt Weigle, GSL’s Chief Downtown Officer, joined KMOX to talk about Downtown St. Louis, as part of a national conversation on bringing downtowns back online following the pandemic. “I’m hearing a different tone about Downtown, and you’re seeing it on the streets too. I think it’s all moving in the right direction,” he said.
The City of St. Louis seeks community input to decide how funding from the Rams Settlement should be used. Greater St. Louis, Inc. submitted a proposal recommending the funds go toward Downtown infrastructure and redevelopment. Take a look at the ideas portal and contribute your thoughts.
This holiday season, shop local. In advance of the upcoming holiday season, Greater St. Louis, Inc. — through its STLMade initiative — has kicked off its 2023 Love Local campaign to promote shopping at local small businesses throughout the St. Louis metro.
“The goal of Love Local is to rally the support and dollars of everyone in our community behind our small businesses and showcase the role we all play in growing St. Louis,” said GSL CEO Jason Hall. “We want to make sure people across the 15-county bi-state St. Louis metro know that when we spend here, it stays here.”
OLE TYME PRODUCE CELEBRATES 50 YEARS, RAISES $100K FOR HUNGER RELIEF
Ole Tyme Produce, the largest woman-owned, fresh food distributor in the state of Missouri and a GSL Chair’s Council member, celebrated its 50th anniversary this week with an event at its 60,000-square-foot facility in St. Charles. As part of the celebration, the company raised $100,000 to support Operation Food Search and reduce food insecurity throughout the metro.
ST. LOUIS’ MUSIAL AWARDS HONOR SPORTS LEGENDS ON NATIONAL STAGE
This Saturday, Nov. 18, the St. Louis Sports Commission will host the 2023 Musial Awards Downtown at Stifel Theater. This STLMade event, which will be broadcast as a one-hour national special on CBS Dec. 24, will feature award recipients St. Louis Cardinal Adam Wainwright and NBA legend and Jefferson County native Bill Bradley.
