314 Day Celebrations Culminate Today, with Record Events and Predicted Engagement
With a more than 40% year-over-year increase in official events on the calendar, 314 Day 2024 is on track to be the biggest 314 Day celebration on record. A collaboration between Greater St. Louis, Inc. and the 314 Day Foundation, the day and the days leading up to it encourage and amplify the pride we have in our metro, giving everyone — from CEOs to entrepreneurs, artists to auto workers — a rallying point of pride.
When we collectively take pride in being STLMade, we can move St. Louis forward. As the writers of the STL 2030 Jobs Plan concluded, “The region can do grand things, together.”
Mayor Jones Signs Bill Critical For Airport Terminal Transformation
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones has signed into law legislation that will expedite the transformation of St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The legislation, Board Bill 201, authorizes the use of Construction Manager At Risk to procure major components of design and construction for the new single terminal airport transformation.
Program Empowers International Women To Thrive In St. Louis
The St. Louis Mosaic Project hopes to transform St. Louis into one of the fastest-growing metros for immigration by 2025. Its International Mentoring Program — with 580 women representing 67 countries and 300 companies — pairs local women with international women, giving them support and a sense of belonging.
The Brickline Greenway — the $245 million infrastructure project that will build 10+ miles of greenway and connect 14 city neighborhoods — just took an important step forward. The United States Department of Transportation awarded Great Rivers Greenway $9.9 million in construction funding as part of its Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program.
“This greenway bridge will be the hub where the north, south, east and west Brickline Greenway routes come together,” said Susan Trautman, CEO for Great Rivers Greenway. “Creating access for everyone and leveraging local tax dollars, private philanthropy with federal dollars is a win for all.”
Mentors Make A Difference For Arch Grants Competitors
Arch Grants draws hundreds of founders annually to compete for the organization’s highly competitive grants. Winners receive $75,000 and significant support for their entrepreneurial endeavors. Mentorship — like that from Washington University in St. Louis, an executive-level member of the GSL Chair’s Council — can help boost their success.
The Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis has named 14 St. Louis organizations — including a number of GSL investors — the top workplaces for women in 2024. The scorecard recognizes employers for gender equity in leadership, compensation, flexible work policies, and recruitment and retention.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist David Nicklaus recently highlighted the strong record of growth in the metro’s manufacturing sector, noting: “Barring a recession, the region’s manufacturing resurgence seems likely to continue. Big projects such as ICL Group's battery-components plant in St. Louis, James Hardie Industries' cement siding plant in Crystal City and Gulfstream Aerospace's expansion in Cahokia Heights have been announced but not completed. Boeing, the area’s largest manufacturer, is considering a 500-job expansion.”
Said Maggie Kost, GSL's Chief Business Attraction Officer: “I think the future is bright for manufacturing in St. Louis. If you look at the global challenges that are out there, including defense and food security, St. Louis manufacturers are solving a lot of them.”
A record number of people in 2023 visited the Gateway Arch National Park: 2.4 million visitors totaled the highest number since 2012. The National Park Service is looking forward to the reopening of the Old Courthouse in 2025, “which will further expand opportunities for park visitors.”
"Experience St. Louis" Helps Execs Get To Know The Metro
A program from FOCUS St. Louis, a GSL Member investor, helps executives and senior leaders new to the metro assimilate, network, and understand the region. The next two-day “Experience St. Louis: The Gateway to the Region's Pulse,” takes place April 18 and 19. FOCUS is also currently recruiting for its fall leadership cohorts.
